At John Grant, accreditation for our students starts in key stage 4. For our more able students who are working at Entry Level 1 and above they follow the City and Guilds Functional skills qualification in both English and Maths. This allows progression from entry 1 through to level 3.

Our students who are working at a pre-entry level in key stage 4 follow the AQA unit award scheme. The units cover all subjects in the curriculum and units are planned specifically to the needs of the students.

Key stage 4 students also follow the AQA Food Technology Award at the pre-entry level and Entry level.

In FE, the students continue the city and guilds functional skills qualification that they started in key stage 4 for maths and English. Those students who are not able to sit the exam follow the OCR Life and Living Skills qualification following the communication and numeracy skill areas. These allow progression along the achievement continuum at Entry 1. Students can then move on to entries 2 and 3.

Students in FE also complete modules in the skill areas of personnel skills, arts and crafts, environment and community, and home management – OCR Life and Living Skills.

Students in our PMLD provision who are of FE age follow the OCR life and Living qualification. As of September 2023, our students in our ASD provision who are of Fe age will also start to follow the OCR Life and Living qualification.
