Youth Games

Thursday, 18th June was the Active Norfolk Youth Games at the UEA Sportspark. We took 54 of our secondary and FE students to compete. Two of our students carried the flag of Canada in an Olympic themed opening ceremony. Events included athletics, tennis, rugby, boccia, curling and zone hockey. All the students were presented with a medal and certificate, and agreed it had been a brilliant day.

Rugby

Students in FE have been working with Penny Chapman from the Rugby Football Union. As well as coaching in rugby skills, she has worked with students on the Community Sports Leadership Programme, and some of our students are now working with pupils from other Norfolk SLD schools, in a series of Rugby Taster Events. As a result of this work, the school was runner up in the RFU President’s XV Recognition Awards, receiving a trophy and a cheque for £100 to support rugby development in school.

Horse Riding

Three pupils from John Grant recently took part in the Inter Norfolk Riding for the Disabled Gymkhana. Liam, Jordan and William worked in a team with pupils from Hillside Learning, Support and Assessment Unit, and together won the Kevin Hughes Memorial Shield. This is the first time that the East Norfolk Group has won this since 2001.
