As several of our pupils are non-verbal the approach to learning in our class is very sensory-based with a lot of emphasis on alternative forms of communication. This helps to ensure that all students are engaged with their learning.

We recognize that in order to learn pupils need to feel emotionally secure and focus on developing a sense of well-being through positive praise and encouragement.   Our differentiated timetable ensures that pupils progress at their own pace and have access to leisure time in order to support their developing social skills. We use the ‘Zones of Regulation’ approach in class to help pupils to understand their feelings, and to teach them how to deal with strong emotions.

Pupils participate in a range of curriculum subjects including Maths, English, Science, PE, History, PSHE and ICT.  Alongside this, pupils take part in weekly swimming sessions, Go Noodle, Attention Autism, Finger Gym and TEACCH workbox tasks.

Our Key Stage 4 pupils are also given the opportunity to gain AQA accreditation in Maths, English or Food Technology.
