As a Specialist Sports College, we pride ourselves on the quality of our PE and School Sport provision. All of our pupils receive high quality PE, and have access to a variety of sporting opportunities throughout their school lives.

Many of our students are involved in competitive events, and we attend inter school competitions regularly. We offer a wide range of sports clubs, with lunchtime clubs and an after school club on each day of the week and often have expert coaches deliver sessions in school. Over 70% of our pupils’ access regular extra-curricular sport.

We are grateful to receive Primary Sport Premium funding to support our work in PE and Sport. This academic year we have used this funding to support the following:

Inclusion opportunities: We have used some of our funding to enable our primary gifted and talented PE group to access local competitive events organised by the mainstream school games group. This has provided inclusion opportunities as well the chance for these pupils to test their skills alongside their mainstream peers.

Shine: We continue to fund resources for our newest class at shine to ensure our pupils there have access to the same equipment they will at John Grant including sensory circuit.

Special School Competitions and events: We have used Sport Premium money to ensure our primary pupils are given every opportunity to compete and experience sporting events alongside their peers from other Norfolk Special Schools. These sporting events include:
Boccia, Football, Athletics, Multi skills, Table Cricket as well as PE events specifically for PMLD and ASD pupils.

Playground equipment: We supported the purchase of resources to be used on the playground to help keep our primary aged pupils active throughout the day, including those with physical disabilities.

Fitness: We have invested in new fitness equipment to keep our fitness suite up to date and accessible for all our pupils.

Dance: We identified a need for our pupils to access more Dance opportunities and addressed that this year. Our pupils have accessed a range of dance lessons led by external expert teachers. We have also taken part in the Stopgap dance performance as part of the Norfolk Festival alongside our mainstream peers.

We were delighted to see our hard work recongised in our most recent Ofsted inspection (November 2017):

“Physical education (PE) is a strength of the school. The PE leader ensures that all pupils are active during the school day. There are many opportunities to take part in sporting activities in school time, at after-school clubs and in local sporting events. Last year, 101 out of the 140 pupils took part in at least one local event. The PE and sport premium is used highly effectively to improve teachers’ expertise and also to provide specialist equipment so that as many pupils as possible can take part and improve their physical health and well-being.”
